Historical Performance Practice of the 19th Century – Romanticism
With Jakob Lehmann, Shunske Sato, Kinnon Church and Clive Brown
The workshop week “Historical Performance Practice of the 19th Century – Romanticism” promises to be a comprehensive guide to European music in the 19th Century: from Italian Belcanto to the German and Franco-Belgian schools and methods. Our lecturers will also go into depth about the differences between solo and orchestral playing and how 19th Century string bass could be tuned so incredibly high.
- Wednesday, January 25th – “Belcanto – How Italian style influenced music around the globe” with Jakob Lehmann (2 – 5 PM, Break, 6 – 9 PM)
- Thursday, January 26th – “Practical Romanticism – High tuning and gut strings” with Shunske Sato and Kinnon Church (11 AM – 2 PM, Break, 3 – 6 PM)
- Friday, January 27th – “German school vs. Franco-Belgian school – Style diversity of the late romantic period” with Clive Brown, Shunske Sato and Jakob Lehmann (11 AM – 2 PM, Break, 3 PM – 6PM)
- Saturday, January 28th – “The fundamentals of the 19th Century Orchestra” with Clive Brown, Shunske Sato and Jakob Lehmann (10 AM – 2 PM, Break, 3 PM – 5 PM)
All workshops will be streamed on YouTube @ConcertoKoeln. All Workshops will be held in English. We also have a backchannel on Zoom, where those who are interested can ask questions that we will forward to the lecturers.
